Wednesday Check-In
I found out after the second service on Sunday, that the scripture passages (NIV) on the screen were from a different version than I was reading from (NASB); I apologize for any confusion.
This week I've linked a blog post, Shepherding to Truth 01, from The Village Church’s Blog, Matt Chandler, Senior Pastor.
Our goal is to see people mature in Christ; we do this by proclaiming Christ, admonishing everyone, and teaching every person with all wisdom. I like this blog post because it reminds us to do these things in love, humility, gentleness, and patience.

For This Coming Sunday
My son is at that age, 10 years old, when the number one question asked of him is, ”What do you want to do when you grow up?” His answer is always the same, an NBA player. People usually respond with encouraging words and tips on how to obtain this goal… practice, make good grades, exercise and so on.
It is strange to me that people don’t ask him WHO he wants to be when he grows up. What kind of person does he desire to become. Maturity (growing up) isn’t about what we do as a career; it’s about who we become as a person.
And the same is true about our growth in Christ. It isn’t about title or position. It is about a transformed life that produces Godly character.
Join us this Sunday as we talk about becoming mature in Christ.

Staying Connected to the Word
This past Sunday, we finished the lesson on bearing fruit, with the main point being that the word of God produces fruit. How, in our busy lives, can we make time for the word of God? The best way is to be committed to daily reading and studying of the scriptures.
Below I have listed other tips/ideas:
1. Listen to the word on your ipod, Zune, CD, cassette, or 8 track.
2. Read a passage of scripture and pray; then journal about it.
3. Tape verses to your bathroom mirror, refrigerator, beside your computer, or any place you will notice it. (A word of caution: the forehead of your spouse might seem like a good idea to you, but it isn’t.)
4. Get in or form a small group that studies the books of the Bible.
5. Talk about the scriptures while you are hanging out with other believers.
I am sure you can think of other ways to “stay” in the word, so please post your ideas.
